He died at the age of 88 on December 4, 1998. During the 1914-1918 war, his father was called up as a nurse. During this time, with his mother, they took refuge in Saint-Cast where he was brought up with a certain freedom by his grandmother Maisonnave. After kindergarten, primary school and complementary courses in Saint-Maurice, he attended the Paris business school for two years, and from an early age he was attracted to drawing. He devotes his moments of freedom to sketching, inspired by the surrounding landscapes. After receiving his graduation diploma, he began to work with his father as a sales representative, but he got up very early in the morning to draw before leaving for work. He draws and paints on cardboard, canvas and anything he finds and can serve as a support. In 1934, he married Nelly Blondel. This marriage is part of the world of painting, because the young woman is herself a painter. Three children are born from this union: Liliane, Jean-Pierre and Nicole. Meanwhile, the war separates the young couple. Henry d'Anty was mobilized in 1939 and assigned to a health unit. The family disperses. The grandmother, Élise Henry, takes the children to Escos Labastide. Henry d'Anty will be a prisoner in Berck in 1940. He escapes in 1942 and when he returns to civilian life, he divorces. [Ref. necessary] Henry d'Anty studied art at the Académie Julian and developed a great deal of affinity with the artists of the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. His palette is colorful. It is dominated by a powerful ruby red with which it generally combines ocher and blue. D'Anty paints large impastos which are superimposed on each other and saturate the canvas with their luminous intensity. Then, he identifies the essential shapes of the painting by underlining them, here and there, with black touches. The material, the brilliance and the choice of colors in his paintings are reminiscent of enamel. D'Anty paints scenes of rural life, country festivals and still lifes. He is inspired by Brittany, Béarn and the north of France in his landscapes despite an inspiring Montmartre life. The files of the Petit Palais show that his works have been exhibited in numerous galleries and museums, as well as in the main exhibitions. Many critics such as Guy Bataille, Jean Chabanon, Paul Reboux and André Warnod were interested in his work.
