Description
Pair of Japanese vases converted into lamps / Meiji era (late 19th century). Richly decorated tinwork featuring floral motifs (chrysanthemums, plums, peonies) and symbolic animals (birds, butterflies, dragonflies) in raised gold. A cartouche is present: it reads, "Made in Kyoto (Great Japan) by the Chikosai/Taketorasai workshop." This is a pair of vases imported from Japan at the end of the 19th century and converted into lamps in the 20th century. Period: Meiji era (1868–1912) – Japanese craftsmanship, Japonisme style. Height with socket approximately 39 cm. Diameter approximately 15/15.5 cm. In good condition, with very slight deformation at the neck and base. I am offering these lampshades as shown (used and torn in one place on the other).
