LARGE HST PAINTING Representing Princess D'EGMONT Angélique de COSNAC - The colors are beautiful - small cracks at the bottom of the forearm - in its original condition, unrestored, entirely original - 1The Egmont family, or d'Egmond, now completely extinct, belonged in the 18th century to the great Protestant trade of Bordeaux. She believed, but naturally without being able to prove it, to be a branch detached at an unknown time from the powerful house of the counts of Egmont, dukes of Guelders and Juliers, princes of Gavre and of the Holy Empire, now extinct, which was the most illustrious of the Dutch nobility. M. Pierre Meller has given in his Genealogical Essays the history of the Bordeaux family of Egmont. This family resided in the 17th century in Gothenburg, Sweden, where they traded. Olivier d'Egmond, born in this city on April 10, 1687, son of Antoine d'Egmond, merchant, and Cornélie Zugl, came to settle in Bordeaux in 1708, was Swedish consul there, abjured the Protestant religion in 1718 and married this same year Jeanne Touges. He had obtained, on April 30, 1717, from the burgrave, senator of Gothenburg, a certificate attesting that he belonged to a highly regarded family, originating from Brabant and established in Gothenburg under the reign of Gustave Adolphe. His uncle, Olivier d'Egmond, born in Gothenburg on October 17, 1656, had come before him to settle in Bordeaux, had founded a banking house there and had married in the temple of Bègles, in 1685, Anne Calandrini. He was the father of Daniel Olivier d'Egmont, born in Bordeaux in 1696, merchant in this city, married in 1727 to Françoise Molinié, grandfather of Guillaume d'Egmont, born in Bordeaux in 1741, merchant, and great-grandfather of François Isaac d'Egmont, born in Bordeaux in 1778, merchant, died in 1863. He left three daughters, who were the last representatives of their family, Mrs. Lucien Faure, who died in 1890, Mrs. "'^ Pierre-Jules Balguerie, died in Paris in 1895, and M'"'' Schroder, born in 1817, died in 1890.
