Magnificent and rare double-page original Japanese print (Woodblock) from the famous collection Kachō shashin zui (Illustrations of Flowers and Birds from Nature) by the artist KITAO SHIGEMASA (1739-1820), published in 1805 (Edo Period).
This print features at the top center (in the fold) the original ink stamp of the prestigious house Bawo & Dotter in Limoges (owner of the Elite Works porcelain factory). At the end of the 19th century, during the height of Japonism, this sheet was imported from Japan to serve as a direct iconographic model for the painters and decorators of the factory in the creation of their porcelain services.
Dimensions: Complete double page 25cm x 17.5cm.
Overall good condition for a 19th-century workshop working document. The paper has a nice uniform period patina. Presence of the original central fold, small signs of wear on the borders that do not detract from the beauty of the piece. The margins and black framing lines are fully intact.
A unique historical piece, perfect for an Asian art collector or a lover of the porcelain heritage of Limoges!
Shipping: Professionally packaged with great care, flat and rigid under protective plastic (no tube to avoid damaging the old paper).
