Porcelain head doll signed Hilda JDK (Johan Daniel Kestner) dollGermany boiled cardboard body early 20th century Kammer Reinhardt H5306This doll has an articulated boiled cardboard body and a porcelain head. There is a marking on the back of the head, difficult to identify. She has original leather shoes and velvet dress. The head is in good general condition, we note that the hair is coming off a little, some paint chips, part of the thumb is missing, some wear on the dress. Note a small break in porcelain at the neck, but this is no longer visible once the head is attached. Marking behind the head difficult to read: Hilda JDK, Germany. Kestner(JDK)crown and banner 1820-1938Waltershausen, ThuringiaJ ohann Daniel Kestner started making papier-mâché and wooden dolls and toys as early as 1805. It is one of the oldest doll factories in the world. Kestner ultimately employed almost three-quarters of the residents of the Waltershausen region, earning him the nickname "King Kestner". In 1858, JD Kestner died and his grandson Adolf took over management of the company. Around 1860, Kestner produced wax on papier-mâché doll heads. In 1860, they acquired the Ohrdruf porcelain factory and produced bisque dolls. Kestner Kid leather bodies may have a label. From 1909, the introduction of character babies of exceptional quality at Kestner was a revolution. In 1930, Kestner merged with Kämmer and Reinhardt. Celebrate, Excellence, Excelsior, Marvel, Excellence or Perfection with the Kestner crown and banner. Kestner's doll heads are specific, like pasta. The “Kewpie” model is extremely famous.
