Georges Marie Valentin Bareau, born on April 11, 1866, in Paimbœuf and died on January 4, 1931, in Nantes, was a French sculptor. Georges Bareau in his studio around 1910. A student at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Georges Bareau studied under Gabriel-Jules Thomas. He exhibited at the Salon starting in 1889. He won a third medal at the Salon of the Société des artistes français in 1893 and a gold medal at the Exposition universelle of 1900, which crowned his career. He is the author of several important groups in Paris, such as "The Vision of the Poet" (1900) in tribute to Victor Hugo in the Jardin du Ranelagh and "Asian Art" on the façade of the Grand Palais. Notably, the marble "Time Creating Wisdom" (1902) is at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Nantes. His works are widely distributed by Ferdinand Barbedienne in the form of edition casts.
