Description

Very nice medium-sized Florentine tray made of molded wood, hand-painted and highlighted with patinated gold. 1950-1960.

It is adorned with a central medallion featuring a decoration of roses and wildflowers, surrounded by a relief frieze of arabesques. The rim is scalloped, painted in green with marbled effects. At the four corners, there is a gilded checkered motif from which four cabochons imitating precious stones descend.

The reverse is gilded and checkered, with a stamped marking in the wood indicating "Made in Italy."

This tray comes from a workshop in the Florence region (Italy); it is part of a large-scale production intended for export and European tourism, at a time when baroque and rococo Florentine ornaments (17th-18th century) were in great demand. The popularity of these trays grew after the war.

This one shows signs of wear on the central medallion, indicating domestic use rather than as an ornament or decoration. Apart from this detail, it is in very good condition.

A lot of charm!

Dimensions: 43.5 x 29 x 1.5 cm.
