ENGRAVING JEAN FRANCOIS MILLET THE SHEPHERD WITH HER FOCK W333 Signature lower left Indecipherable, stamp of the Ste Normande engraving n°90 and signature in the engraving lower left of J.F Millet. Jean-François Millet, born October 4, 1814 in the hamlet of Gruchy and died January 20, 1875 in Barbizon, is a French realist painter, pastellist, engraver and designer of the 19th century, one of the founders of the school of Barbizon. He is famous in particular for his realistic rural and peasant scenes. Jean-François Millet is the son of Jean Louis Nicolas Millet (originally from Saint-Germain-le-Gaillard) and Aimée Henriette Adélaïde Henry. He was born in Gruchy, a hamlet of Gréville-Hague, a commune integrated into the new French commune of La Hague since January 1, 2017. The eldest of a large family of peasants, a shepherd in his childhood and later a plowman, he was raised in an illuminated environment. Particularly thanks to his uncle, a literate priest1, he read the Bible, but also Montaigne, La Fontaine, Homer and Virgil, Shakespeare, Milton, Chateaubriand and Victor Hugo. As for the condition, note small oxidation stains, halos, pitting, slight creasing from handling, traces of folding, missing, micro-tears....
