Made of solid mahogany, it impresses with the harmony of its proportions, the measured richness of its ornaments, and the strength of its aesthetic vocabulary, typical of the early 19th century. Its straight backrest, rectilinear armrests, and generous seat evoke the great models of the cabinetmaker François-Honoré-Georges Jacob-Desmalter, the official supplier of imperial furniture. This armchair could therefore be attributed to a leading Parisian workshop, as the quality of the execution and the attention to detail demonstrate exceptional craftsmanship. The finely carved wooden Egyptian figures adorning the ends of the armrests reflect Orientalist influences and Napoleon's fascination with Egypt, in line with the style known as "return from Egypt" developed from 1802. This type of ceremonial furniture was intended for the official residences of Napoleon I: the Château de Compiègne, Malmaison, the Tuileries Palace, or Fontainebleau, where armchairs with similar lines and ornaments can be found, often ordered in series for reception rooms, private salons, or the apartments of the emperor and Empress Joséphine. The seat has been reupholstered with raspberry fabric with small golden motifs in the Empire style, restoring the brilliance and prestige of the era.
