Charming duo of traditional Peul hats (also known as Tingandés or Tengades).
Handmade in West Africa, they are crafted according to ancestral know-how from braided plant fibers (banana leaves) and enhanced with dyed leather inserts forming geometric patterns and a crest at the top. Initially worn by nomadic shepherds to protect themselves from the sun and rain, these conical hats are now true symbols of cultural identity and beautiful wall decoration objects.
The set is in good vintage condition with a lovely patina. They show slight signs of wear that add to their charm, including some natural fraying in the weaving as well as a detached leather cord at the top of the small model (see photos).
Dimensions: Large model: 38 x 24 x 38 cm / Small model: 34 x 20 x 34 cm.
