Superb antique engraving titled “The Coconut Seller,” drawn by Carle Vernet (1758–1836) and engraved by Louis-Philibert Debucourt (1755–1832). Published in Paris by Charles Bance, 20 rue J.-J. Rousseau, around 1810–1820. This rare and charming print depicts a Parisian street scene: a female street vendor offering her drink to a decorated Napoleonic soldier. A moment of life imbued with sweetness and humor, typical of the popular Paris of the Empire and Restoration eras. This work is part of the famous series of Street Vendors of Paris, with several copies preserved today at the Carnavalet Museum – History of Paris.
