Étienne Bovier Lapierre; oil on panel representing Lake Annecy mountain painting / painter from Savoie Dimensions: With frame 66.5 x 53 cm Without frame 46 x 33 cm Biography Bovier-Lapierre Étienne was born in Saint-Chamond into an artist family; he is indeed the nephew of Jeanne Bovier-Lapierre, who became known in Lyon as a portraitist. Young Étienne worked with his father, a pharmacist, who would have liked to see him follow in his footsteps and denied him entry to the Fine Arts in Paris. However, he entered the Fine Arts in Saint-Etienne until 1926; his practice of mountaineering, alongside Francis Cariffa, led him to specialize in high mountain landscapes, particularly those of La Meije and Oisans in general. Established in Veyrier-du-Lac from 1957, he taught classes for disabled children there when he passed away in 1987. Bovier-Lapierre painted extensively and managed to live from his canvases. A member of the French Artists since 1996, he received the public prize several times at the exhibitions of the Friends of Arts in Grenoble, as well as the Grand Prize for Contemporary Art in Lyon in 1971 and 1972. An officer in the International Order for the Renaissance of Arts and Letters, he was admitted to the Society of Mountain Painters (S.P.M) in 1979. The latter dedicated a retrospective to him in 1993. Country of origin: France
