BOAT BY LOUIS FONTINELLE 1930 CRACKED IN L STATE SIGNED H3329 This boat is a L. Fontinelle manufacture in the inspiration of crackles, subject of the 1930s. Signed Louis Fontinelle on the underside of the hull, marked deposited below the hull. at the end of the sail (on the bottom), small stains, micro scratches. Louis Fontinelle (1886-1964) was a faience maker and ceramist. His hard work, marked by setbacks and successes, was marked by the events of the 20th century.Louis Fontinelle moved to Marines in 1927 where he opened his third ceramic workshop, the one through which he would go down in posterity. Indeed, it is from this date that he will produce his main artistic creations, in particular the crackles. A specialty that he would practice for 4 or 5 years, Continelle has the particularity of being both the one who draws and the one who produces. Despite modest production capacities, it counts among its customers: the Bon Marché, the BHV, the Samaritaine, the Nouvelles Galeries, the Galeries Lafayette, the Magasins du Louvre, as shown by one of its 1928 deadlines. individuals from all over France who order parts from him, he exports part of his production to England and South America. His business is prospering and nothing seems to be able to restrain his creative frenzy. But, the crack of 1929 and the years of economic crisis slowed down consumption, and crackles were no longer successful.During the 1930s, Fontinelle made vases. Anxious to control his production from A to Z, he executes the ornamental motifs himself with the help of a decorator named Roulet. With the "Art Deco" aesthetic, botany is treated geometrically. Fontinelle, meanwhile, takes up this floral repertoire but in a naturalistic way. While continuing his production in Marines, Fontinelle sets up a workshop of “artistic earthenware and porcelain” in 1940, in Mons, Belgium, with Antoine Dubois. Liberation, he is 60 years old. He moved to Grand-Longueron, near Joigny, where he worked until his death in 1964.The Marines pottery was taken over by his son, where he continued to produce his father's subjects until 1971. and up-to-date models, such as spice boxes, lamp bases, sold by wholesalers in England and at trade events such as the Paris Fair.
