Claude Charles Antoine Berny d'Ouvillé known as Charles Berny born July 23, 1775 in Clermont-Ferrand and died January 7, 1842 in Batignolles, is a French painter and miniaturist. Biography edit Berny exhibited portraits at the Salon from 1802 to 1833, including that of the actress Émilie Leverd. From his wife Eulalie Joséphine Biju-Duval d'Algreis whom he married on December 19, 1811, he had six children, two of whom were portrayed by Eugène Delacroix in 1828 and 1830 respectively: Antoine Eugène Berny d'Ouville, born on October 27, 1812 in Lans sur Seine (portrait preserved in the McIlhenney Collection in Philadelphia, United States), and Amédée Pierre Berny d'Ouville, born December 20, 1816 in Paris (portrait preserved at the Medeiros e Almeida Foundation, Portugal). These two Berny d'Ouvillé paintings by Eugène Delacroix are part of the series known as portraits of the Goubaux pension, commissioned from Delacroix by Prosper Goubaux, director of the Saint-Victor Institution. In total, there are to date ten portraits of his students who won prizes in the General Competition which are said to have been produced by Eugène Delacroix between 1824 and 1834, by contract with the director Goubaux.
