His family ran a photography business, colors, and supplies for painters at 40 rue Croix Belle-Porte in Saint-Quentin. Benoît Desprey spent his early childhood in contact with artists and their works. His father indeed organized an annual regional painting Salon where renowned painters such as Rochegrosse, Harpignies, Boggs, Noirot, and Lucien Jonas exhibited. Desprey trained in painting in Lucien Jonas's studio. His studio would always be located in Saint-Quentin, but he exhibited in Paris and abroad, traveling a lot in search of new subjects. He loved painting on site, particularly his seascapes. He participated in the Salon d'Automne in 1931. He died in Saint-Quentin in 1976.
