Antique Jewish/Hebrew/Hanuka/Hanukah oil lamp, in the shape of a bench with 8 holes, decorated with scroll motifs, enhanced with a royal crown and a 2-headed birdAntique Jewish/Hebrew/Hanuka/Hanukkah oil lamp, in the shape of a bench with 8 holes, decorated with scroll motifs, enhanced with a royal crown and a 2-headed bird - in bronze with golden patina 19th century - This type of oil lamp was used to celebrate the Festival of Lights ( Hanukkah), commemorating the miracle that occurred during the rededication of the Temple of Jerusalem during the Maccabean Revolt (167-165 BC), after its plundering by Antiochus IV Epiphanes.

Intended to be placed on a windowsill to publicly announce the miracle of Hanukkah, its eight lamps are lit successively each of the eight days of the holiday using the ninth lamp, called the shamash (“helper” or “ servant")
