Description

Antique Welsh earthenware jug in Georgian style, dating from the early 19th century.

Of octagonal panel shape, it is adorned with the "Bethesda" pattern in an Imari palette of iron red and cobalt blue, with peony decorations.

Its elegant green handle is shaped like a serpent's tail, dragon.

The English manufacturer Masons launched its patented earthenware in 1813, but, according to Geoffrey Godden, an expert on porcelain who has written numerous works (Mason's China and the Ironstone Wares, ACC Woodbridge, 1980), within a few years, the term "earthenware" was adopted by other manufacturers.

As a result, although it is possible to make a hypothesis, the identification of the maker of this piece remains uncertain.
