Antique multi-strand necklace from the early 19th century in solid gold and wax pearls. Rare necklace composed of five strands of wax pearls, very lightweight and slightly irregular, with some showing small discreet cracks, which remains exceptional for this type of fragile manufacturing. The wax pearls, used since the late 18th century and very popular in the 19th century, were a refined and elegant alternative to natural pearls, valued in both decorative and religious jewelry. At the center, an ornamental motif in solid gold, worked in relief, measuring approximately 4 × 3 cm, adds significant character to the piece. The necklace is fastened with an antique gold clasp (tested 18 karats with acid), requiring a small repair solder. The threads, slightly distended, are original and complete, with no missing end caps. I believe that the slight distension of the threads is mainly due to the fact that some pearls might be missing, likely having broken over time. The gold parts have not been cleaned: the old patina has been intentionally preserved, but the gold could be polished by the purchaser according to their preferences. • Necklace length: approx. 43 cm • Total weight: approx. 37.68 g • Central motif: approx. 4 × 3 cm • Visible hallmarks (see photos). Very pretty historical piece, a rare witness of taste and jewelry craftsmanship from the early 19th century. Sold as is. Condition: Pre-owned: Item has been worn. ... Pre-owned: Item has been worn. Any imperfections. Type: Choker Brand: First half of the 19th century Style: Antique Metal: Gold
