Old engraving, mounted on thick paper, depicting a scene known as the denarius of Caesar, based on an original engraving of a very famous work by Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640) created in 1621 and preserved in Geneva. Here, the engraving shows an episode from the Bible: men ask Jesus whether it is lawful to pay taxes to the Romans, and Jesus replies with these words: "Render to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's." This scene has often been reprised by many painters and engravers. Size: W 38 cm H 29 cm Condition: the delicacy of the work allows the faces to be very expressive, particularly thanks to the various shades of gray and black used. Regarding its condition, it is in beautiful shape, except for occasional small material jumps that blend into the clothing and on the hand and head of Christ with whiter areas. Once framed, it will wonderfully enhance an interior.
