Beautiful set of 4 antique plates from Sarreguemines pottery, dating from the late 19th / early 20th century.

These charming talking plates feature various humorous French scenes dedicated to the leisure activities and novelties of the time.

Each plate has a different illustration, printed in sepia brown tones and surrounded by a delicate blue-green floral decor.

The set includes 4 different scenes:

• Cycling – a humorous encounter between a cyclist and a man on his tricycle

• Motoring – a scene depicting an automobile from the early days of the automotive era

Each illustration is accompanied by its humorous caption in French, characteristic of the famous talking plates produced during that time.

The back bears the mark U&C Sarreguemines with a crowned shield.

The Sarreguemines factory is one of the great French faience manufacturers. The collections of the Sarreguemines Museum notably preserve decorative plates from this period made of fine faience with printed decorations.
