Men are responsible for preparing the fibers. It is the pregnant women who carry out the actual embroidery, which consists of crossing the raffia weft right through with a raffia thread which will be cut to a few mm from the front. This work requires many hours of work, sometimes even years for the most complex pieces, which makes them very valuable objects. They were used as currency of exchange or to enrich a dowry.
