LARGE TRAY PAUL FOUILLEN DECOR BRETON 1930 GEOMETRIC QUIMPER DEPOSE C3730 This tray is an exceptional piece by Paul Fouillent. It is a pyrographed wood, very geometric, very sculpted 'is an exceptional piece, never seen such a large piece at Paul Fouillent. The general condition is good, micro scratches from use, note 2 stains (one at the top of the window, the other on the right above the Breton 's shoulder), 2 holes at the back on the high, minimal wear in a few places around the rim. Signed P Dig into the decor, Quimper engraved on the back. Sold as presented. The earthenware of Quimper made known the capital of Cornouaille in the whole world. But behind this prestigious showcase of Breton art, there are several creators and artists who have brought their know-how and their creativity to these ceramic creations. Paul Fouillent was one of them. A mysterious youth: Born in Lorient on September 5, 1899, Paul Fouillent was only three years old when his father, a coffee maker, died. He will spend the rest of his childhood in Pontivy, the city in which his mother's family resides. The latter opens an umbrella shop there after having sold the cafe run by the father. Paul Fouillent is the youngest of a family of three children. The young boy took an early interest in drawing and music. At the age of 16, while he was a good student, he was forced to leave school in order to work for a living. He therefore began with a first job in 1915 in a Pontivy fabric trade, “Les demoiselles Sivienne”. This will be the first contact with printed decorations and embroidery on canvas for Paul Fouillent. In 1918, he left for Rennes to study at the School of Fine Arts. A period over which elements of information are scarce. He returned to Pontivy in 1921 because of his fragile health.
