BRONZE SCULPTURE LE RELAIS DE LA VIE BY LOUIS DERBRE 24 SUR 100 XXEME M536 This bronze sculpture entitled "Le Relais de la Vie" is signed Louis Debré famous French sculptor, it is numbered 24 out of 100, some of his works can reach several thousand d euros on Art Price. He remained on the family farm until 1944, then married the following year with Antoinette Cabrol. Their daughter Mireille was born in July 1950. He worked as a laborer in an artistic publishing house where he met students of the Fine Arts. He then worked in the studio of sculptor Émile Gilioli, where he discovered the art of polishing. His first work is the portrait of a young Dutch painter Werschürr, a student of Fine Arts who frequented the art publishing house.He presented this first work to the jury of the Prix Fénéon in 1951, the prize was awarded to him in Paris in the premises of the Sorbonne by the poet Louis Aragon. Become the assistant of the sculptor Émile Gilioli in the early 1960s, he asserts his personal art. It was revealed to the general public during the “Rodin, Maillol, Debré” exhibition, organized in 1962 by the Hervé Odermatt gallery, avenue Matignon in Paris. During this exhibition, the catalog of which is prefaced by his friend Louise Weiss, Debré presents La Rencontre and Le Fusillé. He presents Les Vacances at the Antwerp Biennale and takes part in an international exhibition organized at the Rodin Museum in Paris. We recognize the style of Louis Debré in this sculpture which is a representation of a woman carrying a child at arm's length to the sky. It seems that this sculpture was a project for the town of Château-Gontier in Mayenne, but it never came to fruition. The general condition is good, let us note some friction and wear of the patina, also some wear on the signature. She weighs 1.39 kilograms.
