LOT OF 2 STERLING SILVER PLATES MINERVE POINCON 19TH LOUIS XVI AND FLORAL DECOR C2653 These two small plates or cups are hollow, in solid silver. The Louis XVI style one bears a "MM" monogram? Minerva punch and master silversmith's punch initials PL with a Lyre between the initials (Prosper Lavanture?). Weight 138 grams. The plate with floral decoration bears a monogram "PG" (?), A neck brace hallmark and the name of the engraved goldsmith Robert Linzeler. The execution of several sailing trophies is entrusted to him. He designed the trophy for the One Ton Cup, a competition of the Cercle de la Voile de Paris created in 1899. The International Cup of the 1900 Universal Exhibition, which served as a support for the sailing events of the Olympic Games in Paris, was also of its creation. He is cited in the report by Bill Mallon, president of the International Society of Olympic Historians, as a silver medalist in sailing at the 1900 Olympics; nevertheless the official report of 1900 mentions Robert Linzeler twice, but only as an artist. During the First World War, he headed the evacuation service of the Fourth Army. In the interwar period, he was president of the French Federation of Mobilized Artists. In 1923, he had the decorator architect Louis Süe (1875-1968) and his partner the painter André Mare built his store at 4 rue de la Paix, in the 8th arrondissement of Paris. In 1927, he created the trophy for the Coupe de France feminine de golf, the Coupe Femina, which disappeared a few years later.
